In an independent study at BayState Medical Center, in Springfield, MA, their 600 plus bed hospital has shown a savings of over $700K from budget year 2002 to budget year 2003.

The $700K in savings were achieved by reducing the amount of reusable linen kept on hand by the hospital (its "par") in anticipation of loss and reducing the need to launder that additional linen.

When the hospital switched to Fiber-Tec reusable linen at the ambulance interfaces, half of the reusable linen previously employed in ambulance transport of the patients into and out of the hospital was no longer necessary. Previously it was assumed the linen going out of the hospital would be lost and the hospital had to have linen on hand in case that happened. Now the hospital just purchases enough Fiber-Tec linen to cover what it will lose rather than twice the amount as it had before.

The total savings of over $700K at BayState Medical, although extraordinary, is typical of the efficiencies and savings possible with Fiber-Tec linen. As Fiber-Tec single use linen costs approximate one third the price of reusable linen, the savings is readily evident in cases where loss is anticipated.
